What age groups does the San Francisco Water Polo Club serve?
We offer programs for athletes of all ages, starting from U10 up to U18, both boys and girls. We also have co-ed teams and development programs for younger athletes.

Do I need previous water polo experience to join?
No, all skill levels are welcome! We have beginner, intermediate, and advanced teams, and our coaches work with athletes to develop their skills, whether they’re new to the sport or looking to compete at a high level.

What equipment do I need to play water polo?
Athletes should bring a swimsuit, goggles, sunscreen and a water bottle. For practices, club gear may also be required, such as team suits and apparel, which can be purchased through our online store.

Where are practices and games held?
Our practices are held at Tamalpais High School in Marin, and St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco. Games and tournaments may take place across the Bay Area or at other locations depending on the league or tournament schedule.

How often are practices and how long do they last?
Practice schedules vary by age group and level. Generally, teams practice 4-5 times per week, with sessions lasting between 90 minutes to 3 hours. A typical practice involves swim conditioning, passing, game strategy and scrimmaging.

Can I try out for the team before committing to a full season?
Yes, we welcome interested athletes to participate in sessions where athletes can experience practices and meet the coaches before officially joining the team. Contact us to schedule a trial session for your age group.

Yes, we believe the more water polo you play the better. We highly recommend Water Polo Experience camps & trips.

International Water Polo Academy?
For athletes looking for a unique way to spend a semester or a full school year abroad Water Polo Experience offers a Water Polo Academy in Barcelona - for kids age 13-20 years old. The WPE Water Polo Academy is located at world class Club Natacio Barcelona, the kids are coached by professional European coaches, including MasterClass with Olympians, and athletes have the option to attend school full time in Barcelona (all classes accredited in USA) & Full Room & Board.
